As a comprehensive pharmaceutical manufacturer with high and new technology, Beijing Zizhu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was reformed in 2000 from Beijing 3rd Pharmaceutical Factory where was established in 1969. Integrated with manufacture, management and R&D, the corporation has 5 GMP production workshops, quality control center, product R&D center, staff training center and other auxiliary facilities. The headquarter is located at Chao Yang North Road, Chao Yang District, covering an area of 122,000 m2, with a construction area of 60,000 m2 and a ratio of 40% green space. The corporation has the registered capital of 380,639,600 yuan and more than 1,300 staff. The total capital is up to ￥675,000,000 . In 1999, the corporation was the first one across the country that obtained the national GMP authentication in one time with 8 types of medicine, which are tablets, capsules, modest capacity injection tablets，powder injection, sustained-release capsule, gels, transdermal patches, and APIs from 7 workshops. In addition, the corporation obtained the ISO9001: 2000 International Quality Management System Authentication and Excellent Award of Beijing Municipal Quality Management in 2001, ISO14001 Environment Management System Authentication in 2002, OSHAS18001(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) in 2004, Outstanding Award of Beijing Municipal Quality Management in 2005.
Zizhu specializes in the R&D and manufacture of five series products, which are family planning medicine, reproductive health medicine, ophthalmic medicine, health care products and biological products. Zizhu is now the designated scientific R&D and manufacture center of medicine for family planning and reproductive health. As a fact, Zizhu has achieved the scale priorities on R&D and manufacture of medicine for family planning and reproductive health, gaining considerable market share in China. For the time being, Zizhu has been listed as one of the famous enterprises in the reproductive medicine industry around the world, and approved by Beijing municipal government as the new and high technology enterprise in Beijing.
Zizhu has paid great priorities to the R&D of new products. Based on the development of domestic and international medical scientific research coupled with the manufacturers’ situation of the same industry and products, the corporation takes advantages of the priorities of hormone steroid research that has been formed so many years, higher level industrial platform as well as the advanced GMP management to ensure the implementation of new products R&D strategy. In 2001 the corporation boldly introduced the advanced product technology, and submitted the report for approval and implemented industrial manufacturing simultaneously. It successfully developed and manufactured national patent product-the third category new medicine of ophthalmology-Compound Anisodine Injection and brought the hope for the ophthalmology patients. In 2001 the corporation R&D team overcame the technological difficulties and completed the approval and industrialization of national 2nd category new medicine Mifepristone tablets’ concomitant drug - Misoprostol tablet, saving considerable foreign currency and cut down the cost. The sales reached up to a few hundred million yuan in 2001.
Following in tow with the implementation of three innovations on technology, management and mechanism respectively, Zizhu has fulfilled the rapid development of the enterprise. Supported by its scientific innovation, it has established the corporation relationship integrated with manufacture, study and research with some famous domestic and oversea scientific research institutes and universities. It has formed its unique products development mechanism and products series. The new products’ launching on the market has been step by step, along with one or two new products every year that possess high technology to bridge the gap. The corporation has a fully owned affiliated marketing company, which is Beijing Zizhu Management Co. Ltd. coupled with several subsidiaries. It has shares in Beijing Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.
Zizhu is distinctive in pursuit of the pioneer of the domestic new medicine R&D, and it has been lobbying for entering into international markets and enthusiastically made contacts with the relevant technological companies which are world leaders and establishes coordinating relations. In 1980s, Zizhu cooperated with Pfizer and introduced the world leading medical equipments, manufacturing technology and management experiences and manufactured cephalosporin anti-biotic and won china market. Zizhu is the first one introducing the world advanced medicine manufacturing equipment and one of the successful partners cooperating with American colleagues. In 1986 the corporation successfully established a joint venture company (currently called Beijing Novartis Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.) with International famous Switzerland Ciba-Gage Co. Ltd.. In 1996, Beijing Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. was successfully established between Zizhu and Korea Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.. In 1999 Zizhu established the partner relationship with American Oklans Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. and jointly manufacture ophthalmology sustained-vision preparation. Since 2002 Zizhu has been actively dedicated to promote the internationalization of reproductive health products. UNFPA purchasing group visited Zizhu twice to discuss about the purchasing and supply in the area of reproductive health products. Zizhu also signed the statement of intent with the relevant Russian organization in the reproductive health products. On 2nd Nov. 2002 Zizhu signed the largest reproductive health cooperation project with US RHT Corporation and in Oct. 2003 the cooperation agreement between these two parties to establish Beijing Zizuite Biological Technology Co. Ltd. was concluded. This cooperation brought Zizhu the access to more than ten patent rights with world state-of-the-art levels and thus Zizhu stepped into a new stage in the area of reproductive health technology. In Nov. 2003 Zizhu signed the technology cooperation agreement with France Synergis Co. Ltd. and it has come to the experiment research stage. The development of this project will not only enable the corporation to cut down the manufacturing cost in our dominant product and the significance is to improve the corporation’s technology power greatly. The manufacturing technology is more of environmental protection and invaluable economic and social benefits will be yielded. In 2003 Zizhu got the great support from Ministry of National Science and Technology and Beijing Municipal Science Committee and established Beijing Molike Technology Development Co. Ltd. with some pioneers of toxicology 4, “863”, “973”from China Military Medical Scientific Institute to trace the cutting-edge technology of national biological pharmaceutical research. Zizhu adopted the filtering technology of high flow passage and follow the pattern of world leading advanced, splendid, specialized and special new products in the manner of self development and cooperation.

Currently there is an effective R&D team of 60 experts, senior consultants and technicians, who have made great contributions to the company. The first emergency contraceptives of China, levonoegestrel tablets(0.75mg), was born in the R&D lab in 1998.
